On 1 July 1987 Wilhelm Stemmer founded STEMMER IMAGING GmbH, although 14 years earlier, Stemmer had established sole proprietorship of “Wilhelm Stemmer Vertrieb für elektronische Bauelemente (distribution of electronic components), dealing with network technology and data acquisition. The young company that started out from the data acquisition division with a dedicated focus on imaging, has evolved into Europe’s largest imaging technology provider over the past quarter century.
“From a technical point of view, there have been tremendous advances throughout this period. When founding the company nobody could predict that imaging, mostly used in scientific applications, would spread out so quickly into automated quality control and even into our daily lives, Wilhelm Stemmer looks back. “Today an enormous proportion of all manufactured products is checked by means of imaging and machine vision, and this applies to virtually all industries. Furthermore, this innovative technology is becoming increasingly popular in more and more applications impacting our everyday life“ . Stemmer cites one of many real examples: “Today an imaging system developed by STEMMER IMAGING and our customer Impire tracks football players in every stadium of the first and second division of the German Football League and analyses their running performance. Examples like this show how imaging and machine vision is an essential part of today’s life.
“Today I am very proud of a company that has achieved an average growth of 15% over the years, despite the drop in sales in 2001/2002 and 2008/2009, the managing director and company founder points out. “This is mainly due to our more than 170 employees in four European locations, our advanced technical competence and state-of-the-art product range, and customers who rely on the products and services of STEMMER IMAGING.
The company’s anniversary year which ended on 30 June 2012 was the most successful in the history of STEMMER IMAGING. With a turnover of 36.9 million euros our head offices in Germany were able to exceed our previous record year 2010/11, where STEMMER IMAGING reported exceptional growth of over 60 percent over the previous year. In addition, with 55.3 million euros the overall turnover of the four European subsidiaries in Germany, UK, France and Switzerland slightly exceeded the previous year's level.
Stemmer considers his company well positioned for the future: “STEMMER IMAGING offers everything that imaging and machine vision users expect from a reliable partner, both in terms of cutting-edge technology and in terms of comprehensive service. Our company motto is: “Imaging is our Passion, and with this passion for imaging and machine vision we will do everything we can in the coming years to support our customers in their success.
STEMMER IMAGING has been leading the machine vision market since 1987. It is Europe's largest technology provider in this field. In 1997 STEMMER IMAGING presented Common Vision Blox (CVB), a powerful programming library for fast and reliable development and implementation of vision solutions, which has been deployed successfully throughout the world in more than 40,000 imaging applications in various industries.
