Mechanical Vignetting

This is governed by the maximum image circle that a lens can produce and is caused by clipping in the optical train.

Mechanical vignetting (or shadowing) is always larger than the manufacturers stated image circle, because the outer edges of an image before the clipping occurs is generally very poor quality.
